Every year, the Rice Players gather students of all experience levels from around Rice University to come together for the unique experience of crafting plays and performing them within a time span of 24 hours. From writing, play selection, direction and rehearsal, to performance time, our talented students from all different backgrounds are invited to partake in our theatrical pastime, regardless of previous involvement in the realm of theatre. The result is an explosion of creativity, hysterical comedy, intense drama, and students trying (and sometimes hilariously failing) to put on several different short skits.
Each year there is a different theme that our many sketches revolve around. This year’s theme is “You Played Yourself,” so we are excited to see the unique ways in which our writers, directors, and actors fit this theme within their imaginations.
Though students are the only ones who partake in putting the plays together, our performances are open to the public and is FREE. So please join us for a night of laughter as we fight against the odds to pull several shows together within a 24 hour period: several plays in a day.
The shows begin at 8PM on Saturday, January 14th, in Hamman Hall at Rice University. Performance duration is dependent on the content created- the show is expected to last between 1 to 2 hours. Admission is free and parking information can be found at parking.rice.edu. Feel free to contact our box office during the week prior to the performance for more information: 713-348-7529 (PLAY).
