History

The Rice Players are an extracurricular, entirely student-run theatre troupe associated with the Department of Visual & Dramatic Arts at Rice University. The Players are Houston’s oldest collegiate theatrical troupe. Professor Mark Krouskop serves as faculty advisor.

If you’re a Rice community member, consider joining us. If you live or work near the Rice campus, please see our shows or join our announcements mailing list. Donations are much appreciated, as your support helps to fund a large portion of our productions.

The Players’ main home is Hamman Hall, a 475-seat auditorium located on the northern edge of the Rice University campus. You can information about parking near Hamman Hall here. To see the Hamman Hall’s relation to the rest of campus, consult one of Rice’s campus maps.

For more about Rice Players’ past, see A History of Theater at Rice, a 2007 lecture by former Players director Neil “Sandy” Havens, professor emeritus, covering the original Rice Dramatic Society, its 1951 renaissance as the Rice Players, and a long history of bringing challenging theatre to Houston audiences.
